Not sure what to say?

I knew Russell Hamachek as my friend, Dede's dad, and my dad, Jack's, close friend. He was extremely handsome, gracious, elegant, and seemed to know a great deal about things that really mattered. His wood carvings were inspiring to me, and when I took up wood carving, I would often think of his ability to bring the wood to the texture of satin, and I would keep sanding. He always reminded me of a model out of an Orvis catalogue, and he always treated me as if I were just as important as...

Russ was our neighbor in Riverdale for over 20 years. He was a wonderful neighbor and a kind and honorable man, who with his wife Margaret reared a great family. He will be long remembered.

Russ Hamachek was a wonderful human being....fair, honest, bright, wry sense of humor, a true pleasure to be around. I had the good fortune of knowing him as a client, friend and neighbor. My wife Katherine and I had the pleasure of being neighbors to him and Mugsy for the last ten years at Sellwood Harbor. They were great participants in the joys and tribulations of condominium living. We really enjoyed the times we were able to spend together. They now seem...

Sellwood Harbor residents remember Russ as a fine gentleman, a war hero, and a neighbor with a keen sense of humor, an outstanding symbol of The Greatest Generation! Our condolences to his family.

Mr. Hamachek,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the USN with the PT boats in the Pacific fighting the Japanese during WW II and for being a member of the Greatest Generation. The men who served in the PTs were some of the unsung heroes of the War-they fought against incredible odds on plywood boats with just speed and darkness as their most important weapons. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my...

I WORKED AT GREAT WESTERN MALTING IN THE 80'S.I FOUND MR. HAMACHEK A FINE C.E.O. AS WELL AS, A HONEST, FAIR PERSON, AND A PRINCE OF A MAN.

Russ’s friendship with my Dad was a huge part of our lives when I was growing up. Friendships like the one shared between the Thomas’s and Hamachek’s are to be treasured. I know I speak for all of us as we morn his passing we celebrate all of the wonderful times we spent in your pool, canoeing Crescent Lake, and in Tillamook. My Dad can now fill his favorite foursome along with the two Bobs.

Much love from,
Christopher, and the rest of the Thomas family.

P.S....

I was lucky along with my Dad, also a PT Boater, brother, and sister , to have a nice time meeting and visiting with Russ as his guests at the Omni Golf Resort about 5 years ago at the 19 hole.He signed and gave my father Paul a copy of one of his books.A true American and member of the Greatest Generation. Our thoughts go out to the family.God Bless
