Not sure what to say?

While a Debater at the University of Houston between 1967 and 1970, Rusty McMeans had come out of the Big Red Debate Machine created by Dr. William English and had gone into the U.H. Law School. Rusty remained active with the Debate Squad. I had the good fortune to be tutored by this genius and, when we traveled in a Big Red Oldsmobile Vista Cruizer, we took turns reading to him from his beloved law books while he drove us to and from our destination. It was during that time that he shared...

Rusty, Lee Ware and I had some great times, fine wine and cigars at Brennan's in Houaton on many occasions and he will be greatly missed.

I first met Rusty at a State Bar CLE program in the early 1980s. Fresh out of college, I was working for the Bar as a meeting planner, and on this particular morning the person who was to welcome the distinguished panel did not arrive. A keen observer, Rusty sensed my anxiety and in his large, yet comforting voice, said "Don't worry, I'll introduce the speakers." A small gesture in his eyes, I'm sure, but a huge, lasting gesture in my eyes. Rusty gave many gifts to many people, but his...

Having worked at the State Bar of Texas for 21 years, I had the opportunity and privilege of working with Rusty numerous times on CLE programs involving the practice of appellate law. He was one of those lawyers with an extraordinary ability to teach enabling him to share and pass on his vast knowledge of the law to those lawyers who were eager to learn from the master. On countless occasions following his stimulating lectures, lawyers would gather around him to further draw on his vast...

I only recently met Rusty when we were on opposite sides of a case on appeal. He was a very capable advocate, learned in the law, and, most importantly, a gentlemanly and courteous professional.
We need more like him, and he will be missed.

Steve & Bill -

So sorry to hear about your dad's passing. From the type of men you both turned out to be, I know your dad must of been an incredible person. My father passed recently as well, so I know pain and sorrow you guys are experiencing. My thoughts and prayers are with you guys through these difficult times.

I worked for this wonderful man for 19 years. Rusty was like a father to me. He exemplified every virtuous character in man. It continues to be unbelievable that he is no longer with us. I miss him greatly already. I love you Rusty.

I was truly saddened to hear of Rusty's passing. I have known Rusty since we were classmates at Lancaster H.S., Class of '64. Not mentioned in the obituary was the fact that I believe Rusty was our class Valedictorian. Our class and the one behind us were very close, and all of us felt a true kinship that has endured throughout the years. The obituary also gives the impression Rusty began his debating in college, but my recollection is that he was successful in similar endeavors in high...

Rusty was a true and loyal friend to my family for over 25 years. He was a kind and generous man who was always there when you needed him. I will remember fondly his infectious laugh and the many lively evenings my late husband and I spent with him. We loved him and will miss him very much.
