Mihovk-Rosenacker Funeral Home - Cincinnati Obituary

Russell C. Stone, 91, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 17, 2025. Russ was the beloved husband of Barbara “Jane” Stone (nee Kenney) for 63 years; devoted father of Wendi Kai (Michael) Fox and Scott Russell (Melinda) Stone; cherished grandfather of Marissa Fox, Michael (Shelby) Fox II, Ariana Fox, and Lucas Fox; dear brother of the late Lois Jean (Clem) Merz; and loved uncle of Chris (Shelley) Merz. In addition to his sister and brother-in-law, Russ was preceded in death by his father: Clarence Moody Stone, mother: Helen Stone Herweh (nee Cummins), and stepfather: Albert C. Herweh.

Russ was a brilliant mind with a knack for precision and attention to detail. He excelled in the field of mechanical design, leaving his mark on the world through his work with companies like Procter & Gamble. He played a pivotal role in the design and development of several groundbreaking products, including the surgical stapler and removal device, the construction nail gun, and Luvs brand diapers. Before his career, Russ honorably served in the US Army as a member of the 1st Cavalry Division during the Korean Conflict. Stationed in Japan, he worked as a radio operator skillfully interpreting and coding messages in Morse code to ensure military and procedural security. His commitment to his nation was a testament to his dedication and discipline.

For 42 years, Russ shared his love for motorsports through his work at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Starting as a pit crew member, he later became a USAC Official and eventually an Indy Car Official. He played an integral role behind-the-scenes of some of racing’s iconic events. Russ was a proud member of the Indy Old Timers Club and cherished the friendships and memories fostered in the racing community.

In addition, Russ was a founding member of Miami View Golf Club. Through his time as a member, he served in various leadership roles, including President and Greens Keeper Committee Chair. His love for the sport and dedication to the club enriched the lives of everyone who shared the green with him. Russ was also a member of College Hill Presbyterian Church since 1961, where he and Jane celebrated their marriage. Together they lived a life guided by faith and service.

Above all, Russ was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be remembered fondly for his warmth, wit, and wisdom, which touched the lives of all blessed enough to have known him.

Visitation in his honor will take place on Friday, February 21st from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Mihovk-Rosenacker Funeral Home (White Oak), 5527 Cheviot Rd, Cincinnati, Ohio 45247.
