Got to know Rusty when I was Rooms mgr at the Stockyards Hotel. Billy bob would set him up a room at a dump on NE 28th and 35 w but I´d give him room here and bill Billy Bob Barnett Rusty was a wonderful down to earth person and I´ll never forget some party nights in the stockyards. Had seen Rusty sing may of times , I was from Dallas . So anywhere around there . I was there ! Loved his music !

On those rare evenings when Rusty didn't have a gig, he'd often come to Willie's Austins concert venue, the Austin Opera House to hang out. I was the Head Bartender and ran the bar in the Ballroom behind the main hall. Oftentimes, Rusty would get bored and come hang out with me, and on occasion, he would barback for me.
