Not sure what to say?

Ruth was my mother's sister, and she was a special person to me during my growing up years. When I was in my teens I spent summer vacation with her, going to the paper everyday, answering the phone, and proofreading. It was great. I got to meet the publisher, Phil, and his family as well. Ruth taught me how to water ski! Such a great time in my life. When my children were young we visited Ruth who took us out in her boat and spent time with us in spite of her busy schedule. I miss her.

Ruth was my great-aunt. She was always very supportive. She helped me afford college. I dedicated my first book to her.

My Deepest Sympathies to the family, I had the joy to work with Mrs. Barbour while on the board of the Carteret Community Foundation. Her wealth of history and love of this community was an inspiration. Her legacy will live on through her work and contributions for generations.

My very first job was as a 17 year old fresh out of high school and that job lasted 10 years, Ruth taught me so much and always had my deepest respect. She cast me in her play for two years and we had many fun times in the "boat club". I will always remember her with fondness. The county has been blessed to have her in our midst all these years. Rest in peace, friend!

Ms. Ruth was such an inspiration to us and our children over the past 45 years. She will be remembered by us for not only her outstanding work in our community but the love, compansion, and caring she shared with all of us. Our family (kids also) participated in her play she wrote entitled "Captain Otway Burns" in 1968. Such a special lady. Gone but not forgotten by so many friends.

Dail and Jo Anne, you have my deepest sympathies. Ruth was my godmother and meant a great deal to me. She did a lot for Carteret County, both through her work at the News-Times and through her writing and directing for the Carteret Community Theatre.
