Not sure what to say?

Ruth was my first cousin from my Dad’!s side , the Johnson’s s I believe she is the oldest of the cousins & I am the youngest. Ruth ‘s mother was a sister to my Dad , Lilllian C. Johnson & she married Harry Johnson. . The had 5 children with Ruth being the oldest At age 12 . her Dad died suddenly & left my “Aunt Lil “ with 5 children. My, Dad, Victor Emanuel Johnson , went to live with his sister , Lil , for a few years as he was not married yet .He came to help raise the children....

I hosted a talk show on a new Cable TV show, called "Perspectives"...the studio was in the 500 Building of Salina Street. I remember interviewing Ruth for the TV show after she won the Medal of Honor from President Bush in 2006. Ruth was so humble in the interview....very unassuming. As a fellow Presbyterian, I would see Ruth at events at Pebble Hill Church. I would tell her of my special memory of interviewing her. She answer "that was a long time ago" and we would both laugh. She was...

Loved golfing with Ruth. Two things she would always say, and I remember all the time when I golf: Someone would land in the rough on the side of the green. Ruth: no problem! Just a chip and a putt!" She also always reminded me to have "a positive mental attitude". About life in general. She was an amazing person with great stories.

It was an honor to have known Ruth. She was truly an extraordinary and accomplished person. I was her "chauffeur" for book club for several years, and also for many of her medical appointments, until I started having health problems about two years ago and someone else took over. We had many good conversations in the car, as she was always up to date on current events. We went to a number of movies and lectures before Covid. Ruth had fond memories of going to movies with her beloved...

There will be hundreds or maybe thousands of entries, remembering Ruth with appreciation and delight. I don´t want to go on long, but I will cite my memories of her and her beloved husband, Bob, as Hospice volunteers among the various ways that I have known her throughout these years. I was a chaplain with Hospice and had the opportunity to interact with them at various times and appreciated their caring and goodwill. Obviously, Ruth is known for so much more in the field of literacy, but I...

This was a woman of valor, whose impact was of uncommon importance. In my life in Syracuse (1941-1968) my parents and then I admired her. Our community was profoundly enriched by her presence. Thoru Pederson

Lindy l was so glad to have spent time with you at our H.S. Reunion and talking about your mom, what a wonderful treasure that so many people were able to share your mother´s life and achievements. May the memories of her comfort you in the days ahead.

Lindsay, You and I went to Edward Smith together. I think your Mom was one of our Girl Scout Leaders. We reconnected with your parents in 1970 when we bought a house on Berry Road. They owned the property around us and we would visit when they came out to check on their property. We have many happy memories of hiking into the old boy scout camp and all around. I have one of her books and enjoyed reading about their travels and all of the wonderful accomplishments. What a legacy they...
