Here's the photo of Mom that Pop took to war with him. He served as a medic for the Marines in Iwo Jima, Okinawa and occupational forces in WWII.

Ruth stopped by my Broadway business one day and asked me to go with her to be a witness to a rare Humboldt County bird in the field at the end of Washington street. I think it was a a little Burrowing Owl? Her son Dick has been a friend for many many years...

Ruth was quite a woman! I have warm memories of both she and Dr. Crane, as they were always a big part of our community and touched many lives. My condolences to the family on her passing, and thanks to God for bringing Ruth all the way to Ferndale from the east coast.
