Ruth Flores Obituary

Ruth C. Flores

San Angelo

Ruth C. Flores, age 59, of San Angelo passed from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Monday, December 3, at the Shannon Medical Center following a long and courageous battle with lupus and later prostrate and liver cancer.

She was born November 11, 1959 in Laredo, Texas the daughter of Antonino and Maria Arizola Calderon. She graduated from Central High School in San Angelo and alter married Albert Banda Flores on August 9, 1980 in San Angelo. She worked for Holsum Bakery and later for Bill's Man's Shop. She was known to always have a big heart and putting others first even in her hard times. She was recognized as one of the Women of Distinction by the Concho Valley Girl Scouts and served as an Elder at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church and later as an Elder at St. Mark's Presbyterian Church where she was a member for the past several years. She loved to do crafts, listen to music of all kinds, and especially spending time with her grandchildren that she dearly loved.

She is survived by her husband, Albert of San Angelo, a daughter, Natalie Bridges and husband Riggin of San Angelo, a step-son, Greg Flores and wife Angelica of Midland, a sister, Flora Salinas and husband Benny of San Angelo, a brother, David Calderon and wife Terri of San Angelo, a sister, Rachael Dela Cerda and husband Joe of Midland, and two step-sisters, Belia Rios and husband Hector of San Angelo and Elsa Guajardo and husband Rodolfo of Laredo. She was also survived by five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Olga Barron and a brother, Samuel Calderon.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Cheruku, Dr. Goen, Dr. Ayass, and the ICU staff at Shannon for the wonderful care she received during her illness. Through it all, she always had a favorite quote to leave to others, "God only gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers...God is always in control"

Because of her love for others, she continued her giving heart by donating her body to the Texas Tech School of Medicine. A memorial service in her honor was held at St. Mark's Presbyterian Church. Local arrangements were by Johnson's Funeral Home.
