She was the best. Teacher I ever had. I learned more than medical assisting from her at Wingate College such as but not limited to honesty, integrity, strong work ethic, passion for my work, desire for continuing education throughout life,sympathy and understanding, and a soulful strength. I was incredibly fortunate to meet Dr. Patterson during my post-doc at MUSC. She came into my life during a time when I was struggling with confidence and career choices. Dr. Patterson was a bright shining light during that dark time, helping me discover a talent and love for teaching.

I am so glad to have been in a small part of this amazing woman's life. As she was ready to move close to her children, I was honored to help her sell her Mt. Pleasant home. She had a wonderful heart. The joy she received from her work at MUSC and life here in Charleston was amazing to see. Dr. Ruth, you will be missed!
