CHATHAM, IL - Ruth E. Piper, 87, of Chatham, passed away Friday, Jan. 15, 2016, at Memorial Medical Center.
Ruth was born March 13, 1928, in Kansas City, Kan., to the late Chester Kyle and Ora Floy Lane Flanders. She married Louis Martin Piper on July 16, 1950.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Jared, and sisters, Alice Wells and Jesse Huginan.
Ruth was a member of the Home Extension and the Red Hats Club.
As a younger couple, she and her husband were avid bowlers and belonged to several leagues in the area. She was gifted in arts and crafts and loved making ceramic items for family and friends.
For several years, she was a bookkeeper for the Ramada Inn.
She will be greatly missed by her husband of 65 years, Louis of Chatham; son, Mark (Beth) Piper; grandchildren, Nathan and Tori, all of Springfield; brother, Jack (Norma) Flanders of Olathe, Kan.; and sisters: Rachael (Grady) Wynn of Victorville, Calif., Rebekah (John) Silkiner of Leawood, Kan., Ora Leann Cunningham of Durango, Colo.
Visitation and Funeral: Her family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 20, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 Rt. 4, Chatham. Her funeral ceremony will be held at noon, Thursday, Jan. 21, at Staab Polk Memorial Home with Rick Wenneborg officiating.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

I am so sorry for your families loss. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. I remember the last time I saw everyone was at Aunt Rebekah's Lakehouse for that family reunion. So sad we didn't have some more family get togethers. Love you all so much
