Not sure what to say?

Dear Ruth, As I see your house emptied next door, your watering can in the recycling bin, and your porch setee gone, your departure becomes more vivid and difficult. Dan and I will hold in our hearts all that you and Charlie mean to us as your thirteen year neighbors. We count ourselves fortunate indeed to have had the good fortune of finding that house right next to you. Your spirits, your joy, your devotion to family and Savior live on on NE 19th Avenue. I have been a catechist for 32 years and my work with sacramental prep. children was totally inspired by Ruth's workshops and parish visits, where she would layout all her "stuff" to teach catechists and parents how to make the faith come alive for youngsters. I still have all her copied notes full of tiny drawings and little print, as she wanted to get the most out of every page. I did not know that she compiled a book. Where are they sold? We raised 5 kids and have 8 grands so far and...

We had the good fortune to move to a house opposite Ruth and Charlie and they have been wonderful neighbors for many years. We could always rely on them to keep an eye on our house and our children as they were growing up. Their good humor and happy outlook on life will be sorely missed across the road.

After being neighbors for 40 years, we watched our children grow together and had many a cup of coffee together. You were a kind and gentle lady. now you and Charlie are together again.

Ruth and Charlie will be missed at The Madeleine. I will never forget all of the wonderful activities Ruth put together for the children during Lent and Advent. When I was preparing to teach Sacramental Prep to the 2nd graders, Ruth was there to guide me, inviting me into her lovely home, providing a copy of her book, and giving me so many great hands on activities we still use with the children today. When I think of role models on how to live your life - I think of Charlie and Ruth. ...

I'm sorry for your loss. Our neighborhood will surely miss both your parents.

I'm sorry I was not able to make it to her service today. My thoughts are with you all.

Ruth and Charlie came to the "First Wednesday" mornings of reflection each month at the Jesuit Spirituality Center that I coordinated for years, and were so supportive and kind... she was someone I care for a lot, and am grateful was in my life. Please know of my prayers for all of her family, whom she spoke of so often with love.

Ruth was a fine neighbor on 19th Ave. When we traveled, no matter if it were to places in Oregon or places in another continent, we knew Ruth was there watching over our house for us. We were glad to do the same for Charlie and her. We will miss her energy, her charity, and her generosity or spirit.

Dear Jim,
I was so sorry to learn about your mom's death and to read that you dad died recently, too. Losing our parents is a very difficult passage in life, and I can only hope that special memories will always keep both of your parents with you in spirit. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Love Carol Warren
