Ruth P. Waugh

Ruth was truly a woman of great faith, and a mother to so many spiritual children. I knew her only for a short time in the late 77's, but I will never forget her loving heart and warm gift of hospitality and her smile and joy! I remember being one of those young people in her home in Riverside, California when they hosted the Bible studies where Lonnie Frisbee used to teach. I played the guitar and lead the worship with others. Her rewards are many in heaven for she was a great soul winner.

Ruth was a gracious mother-hostess as I was a 15-year-old guest in the home of my friends, Karen and Steve. She made me feel welcome and happy to visit. Fifty years ago she took Karen and me to see my first stage play, "My Fair Lady"--thrilling then and still memorable. Imagine my surprise so many years later, at seeing her friendly face when I opened the newspaper as I visited Eugene this week! Good memories and many blessings to her family as they bid her farewell for now.

I have such regard for Ruth Waugh. She was my favourite teacher at the U of O. She taught me so much about teaching reading to school children. I will always appreciate her skill as an educator.

I always will have a special place for Ruth. In 1984, she hired Jerry Tindal and me to work in special education at UO, and under her mentorship, Jerry and I began a wonderful special education career. Ruth was kind, supportive, available, positive, and strong. Thank you, Ruth.
