Not sure what to say?

I just recieved a letter from Ed telling me about Mrs. Yates. The fond memories of "those Scout camping" trips with 3 generations - Mrs Yates, Mrs Counts/Susan and Jane - filled with lots of laughter, love, and hard work will always bring joy to my heart. Thanks for being such a big part of my "young life"!

I have so many memories of my grandmother "Mommy" Ruth. One of my very favorites is the time she won a $500 shopping spree at a store when I was only 7. I thought she should buy me the bedroom suite for my room, and she thought different. She ended up getting our family a dishwasher and said I would learn to appreciate it more than I knew. To hush me up, she took me next door and got me a bathing suit which to me was just as good as the bedroom suite. She had a way about her unlike anyone....

I know you will miss her, but she will always remain in your memory.

Ruth was the mother of my college roommate and best friend, Susan. She always welcomed me into her home at that time, and we have kept up contact since Susan died. She was a grand lady.

My favorite memories of Aunt Ruth was a trip she and Pluto made to NY to see us. She and Pluto had a ball going in out in the grapes and tromping around in bushes going through old abandoned houses with me. Mom (her sister Jackie) would run with them to auctions that trip, and she was shocked when I brought in my pet goat to see them.. With all of them gone now its up to us to re remember, we'll have to have a cousins gathering sometime soon...

I had just received a Christmas card from Aunt Ruth on Wednesday and sent one to her today, not knowing she had gone. She was a favorite Aunt who was very close to our family. She taught my brothers how to read and helped care for them as babies. She helped me with pronunciations and demanded that I speak slower so people would understand me. She was highly literate and well educated. She was a lover of life and of her people. Her indelible imprint remains on our lives.

Ruth Yates was my aunt and I will never forget her. I spent many days and nights at her home and she was always very good to me. Even though I will not be able to attend her funeral in person, I will be there in spirit. Helen, my heart goes out to you and your family as you say goodbye to a grand lady. Ron arrived from Florida today and plans to attend the funeral, so, he will represent the Herbert Yates family. God bless all of you.

Ruth Yates was my aunt, married to Claude, and we had wonderful times visiting when we were much younger. I visited Aunt Ruth at the nursing home several times and at first, she was just as sharp and witty as she always was. I will miss her. Helen, our family is having their Christmas get-together Saturday at Patsy's and we will not be able to attend Aunt Ruth's funeral. Ron is coming up from Florida for just a few days. While he's home, we'll try to visit you and Max. Sorry we can't be...
