Ruthie Vassel
Albuquerque, New Mexico

Albuquerque, New Mexico
Ruthie was born January 19, 1935 in Coldwater, Mississippi to Ozie Walls and Arie May Walls. As the middle child and only girl, Ruthie learned to become independent at an early age. She accepted Christ early in her life and died with the Lord as her personal savior. Ruthie's lively spirit and strong will took her from her small Mississippi town to Chicago, Illinois and finally to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she raised her children and was a devoted wife to her husband, Dan Vassel, until his health failed in 1985. When she wasn't warming the hearts of others with her delicious home cooking, Ruthie was busy searching for a good deal! Whether it be a yard sale or the thrift store, she was always able to find whatever item anyone needed. Ruthie spent her life as a homemaker, making others laugh, and simply enjoying the company of her family and friends, whom were with her throughout her final days. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ozie Walls and Arie May Walls, and her little brother, Addison "Uncle Duck" Owens. Morning her passing is her eldest brother, Henry Owens, her children; Steve Cephus, Edward Cephus, Direne (and husband Edward) Joiner, Tabatha (and husband Vern) Lackland, and Danny (and wife Jennifer) Vassel. Nine grandchildren; Deondre Joiner, Shamar (and wife Camille) Joiner, Juperi (and husband Chris) Johnson, Qurne Vassel, Jaquan (and wife Chloe) Vassel, Dashy Vassel, Iesha Bradford, Aidan Vassel, and Alex Vassel. And was incredibly blessed to know and love her eight great-grandchildren; Kelis, Ajanae, Cadence, Nazhoni, Elias, Kyla, Ashlyn and Sanaa. The family of Ruthie Vassel would like to express our sincere appreciation for all your prayers and other expressions of love and sympathy shown during this time of bereavement.
