Ryan Patrick Hunter
March 10, 1979 - December 1, 2024
Ryan Patrick Hunter, 45, of North Platte, passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 1, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born on March 10, 1979, in North Platte, he was the son of Charles "Doug" and Janice (Septon) Hunter and a big brother to Elizabeth (Hunter) Warren.
Ryan graduated from North Platte High School in 1997, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a bachelor's degree in 2002, and the Colorado Graduate School of Banking in 2015. He was married to Marcy (Kelly) Hunter on Sept. 24, 2005, in Sutherland and they celebrated 19 years of marriage this year. Ryan and Marcy had three beloved sons, Charlie (15), Sam (14) and Liam (10). The family moved to Curtis in 2010 to help start Western Nebraska Bank where Ryan served as vice-president and IT officer, then returned to North Platte in 2015. He enjoyed his work family so much and continually received perfect scores during IT exams.
Ryan had a kind heart and was a genuine man with a fierce love for his family. He had so much love for the Nebraska Sandhills where he proposed to his wife. He enjoyed his summers in Brewster with his grandparents, "Nanny" Mary Elizabeth (Cox) (Hunter) and "Bapa" Donald Ferguson and hunting in the fall with his dad and friends. He then passed on his love of the outdoors by taking his sons hunting from Brewster to Sutherland and showing them firsthand how work was done at a cattle branding. Ryan planned his annual ice fishing trip months in advance with his buddies and enjoyed everything about golf except his slice. Ryan was the last to think the Cornhuskers would have a bad football season and prided himself on his love of horse racing which his dad passed on to him. He enjoyed visiting family in Ireland twice and attended the Kentucky Derby multiple times.
Ryan was a member of the North Platte Ambassadors, the Lake Maloney Homeowners Association, and Western Nebraska Bank board member.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles "Doug" Hunter and his grandparents.
Surviving Ryan, in addition to his wife, Marcy, are children, Charles D. Hunter, Samuel J. Hunter, and Liam J. Hunter of North Platte; his mother, Janice C. Hunter of North Platte; his sister, Elizabeth (Hunter) Warren of Omaha; and nephews and niece.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Charlie, Sam and Liam's college funds. Online condolences may be shared at carpentermemorial.com.
Mass of Christian Burial is at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12th, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with the Rev. Vidya Sagar Arikotla as celebrant. Lunch follows Mass, and the burial is at Riverview Cemetery in Sutherland afterward. The service will be livestreamed at carpentermemorial.com. Book signing is from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11th, with a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m., at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which is entrusted with arrangements.
