Saeid Vaziry, 65, of Gilroy, California, entered eternal rest on March 7, 2025.
Saeid was born in Tehran, Iran on January 5, 1960 to Akhtar Karbasi and Rohollah Vaziri. He went to school in Iran before moving to the US at age 16 to continue his education at Evergreen Community College. He transferred to Fresno State University to pursue Civil Engineering where he graduated magna cum laude. After graduation, he moved back to San Jose to work as a process engineer at Xidex. In 1988, he met the love of his life, Melissa—introduced by her cousin and his best friend Ray—and moved to Fresno to work for the city. They got married in 1990 at Carmel By the Sea and three years later, they welcomed their son, Kean.
Saeid worked for the City of Fresno for more than 10 years as Chief of Technical Services before his 20 years as a leader of environmental programs at South County Regional Wastewater Authority in Gilroy. As the recipient of the Engineering Achievement-of-the-Year Award by California Water Environment Association, he honored the SCRWA commitment to the environment with his pursuit of programs and projects that focused on efficient, effective operation without ever losing sight of the need for sustainable solutions.
Saeid was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. Anyone who knew Saeid knew that he was the most loving father, husband, son, brother, uncle, cousin, colleague, and friend someone could ask for. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world. He was unendingly proud of his family and his work.
He is survived by his wife Melissa, his son Kean and daughter-in-law Alissa, his mother, sisters, and extended family. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, March 22 at 10:00 AM at Habing Family Funeral Home in Gilroy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Red Cross, a cause dear to Saeid.
