Sally Cabot, 88 was received into the loving arms of the Lord on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility in Manistee.
She was born on January 6, 1935, the eldest of two children to William and Virginia (Zielinski) Dembinski. Her younger brother Philip preceded her in death in March 2018. Sally was a lifelong resident of Manistee, attending St. Josephs Parish and graduating from St. Josephs school with the class of 1952.
Sally began working at City Drug store, Menerey’s Drug Store, the Manistee Shoe Factory, Newberry’s Department store and the Hardy Salt Company/Diamond Crystal where she retired from in 1992, then assisting her daughter for many years at Rich’s Daisy a Day Flower Shop.
Sally married Joseph Bartoszek on October 2, 1954, they were Blessed with their daughter Mary Lou in 1955 and their son Richard in 1959. Joseph died unexpectedly on January 15, 1966, leaving Sally to be a single loving and devoted parent to her children. She sacrificed to make sure they received 12 years of Catholic Education graduating from Manistee Catholic Central. Sally was one of M.C.C.’s most dedicated supporters. Long after her children graduated, she continued to run Bingo, bake countless pans of rice krispy treats for the student’s events, stuff envelopes with tickets for Harvest, working on many festivals and continued to attend every function and sporting event as long as her health allowed.
One of the greatest blessings of her years at Hardy Salt, was meeting Rex Cabot whom she married on September 22, 1978. They enjoyed over 30 years of life together, spending as much time as they could at their cottage on Crystal Lake, traveling to Detroit for every holiday, delivering flowers everywhere in Manistee County, traveling with family and friends and enjoying life together. Rex preceded her in death on November 29, 2009.
Sally was very proud of her Catholic faith and was always willing to help others in any way. Her motto was “If you want something done, ask a busy person”. She was always willing to get involved and was not afraid to be a leader, a trait she handed on to her children.
Sally lived for three years before moving to the Medical Care at Horizon Pointe. She was so blessed with the new friends she made there, who taught her at eighty years old, to play Euchre, she enjoyed going to Bingo, any casino, cooking and entertaining, meeting new people and traveling. She enjoyed spending winters in Detroit where she made many friends and enjoyed traveling to Palm Springs.
The last years of Sally’s life she resided at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility. In her loving way, she instructed her children, that when the time came for her to need full time care, that was where she wanted to go, as she was a volunteer there for many years. She would often say “they treat me like a Queen here”. She was blessed with outstanding care by the men and women who cared for her until her death.
Sally is survived by her children Mary Lou Racine and Fr. Rich Bartoszek, along with three men who were very special to her, Jeffrey Seng, John Umlauf and Carl Loftis. She is also survived by her dear cousins, who always treated her as a sister, Leona Swanson, Margaret Zajac, Lori Chycinski and Betsi Rothrock, also surviving are many nieces and nephews as well as their families.
