Sally Fifield

New London, NH-Sally (Kleindienst) Fifield, 80, of Old Main Street died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004 at the Kindred Hospital, Peabody, MA after a long illness. She was born on November 7, 1923 in Fairfield, CT the daughter of Charles F. and Anna (Baker) Kleindienst. Mrs. Fifield graduated from Holyoke High School in 1941 and Colby Junior College in New London in 1944. At the Commencement, she was elected by the senior class to be the Marshall. She accepted an internship in the School of Medical Technology at the New England Hospital for Women and Children. After receiving an advanced Bachelor of Science degree, she served on the faculty of Colby Junior College from 1945-1954. During her tenure she taught the basics of medical technology to the third year students. She was also the medical technologist for the Baker Memorial Laboratory at the New London Hospital. While performing as advisor to the third year class, she assisted them in carrying out activities to raise money for the benefit of the laboratory. She became educational coordinator at the Malden Hospital of Medical Technology. In 1990, she became president of the Colby Sawyer College Advisory Council. She was secretary and president of the New London Hospital Board of Directors from 1975-1982. She was director of the Central New Hampshire Mental Health Services from 1970-1973. She was on the Board of the Lyon Brook Association. Mrs. Fifield was on the New London Board of Selectmen from 1991-1994 and sat on the town's Planning Board and Budget Committee. She received the Colby-Sawyer College Service Award in 1978 and the service award from the New London Chamber of Commerce in 1982. Mrs. Fifield enjoyed golf, tennis, and bridge. Her son, Cory Brooks Fifield, died of leukemia in 1980. Her husband, Ralph Brooks Fifield, Jr., died in July 2003. Members of her family surviving include two daughters, Susan Jamison Mazur of Lebanon, NH and Nancy Dana Fifield of New London, NH; one granddaughter, Anna Brooks Mazur of Lebanon, NH; five nieces and one nephew. There will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. at The First Baptist Church of New London. Burial will be in Old Main Street Cemetery, New London, NH in the spring.
