Athens Sarah Lou (Sally) Jagers, 93, went to be with our Lord on April 3, 2024, in Worthington, Ohio. Sally joined her previously deceased beloved husband of over 68 years, Joe Jagers. She was born on January 4, 1931, in McArthur, Ohio to the late Howard and Blanche Wallar. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband Joe Jagers as well as her brothers, Donald, and William Wallar. Sally is survived by her children; Steven (Karen) Jagers of West Chester, Ohio, Donald Jagers of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, James Jagers of Pickerington, Ohio, and Jennifer (Scott) Riegert of Worthington, Ohio, grandsons: Colby Berry, Andre Jagers, Matthew Riegert and granddaughter Jillian Riegert; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Sally was a 1948 graduate of McArthur High School, where she excelled in her schoolwork. She moved to Athens after high school with her parents and met the love of her life, Joe Jagers whom she proceeded to marry and raise 4 children together after he returned from service in the US Army during the Korean War. Sally was a loving Wife, Mother and Daughter devoting her life to taking care of her family and home. She was proud to have been voted Mrs. Athens in 1949 and she assisted in running the family business, Jagers Funeral Home, helping families for over 65 years. Sally also contributed to the community by playing an instrumental role as a dispatch for Richland Area Fire Department for more than 35 years before the 911 system was implemented. Sally also gave back to the community by volunteering for the IRS VITA program (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) for over 20 years as a certified tax preparer and coordinator, helping many local families keep more of their hard-earned money. Prior to marrying, Sally worked at the Ohio Dept. of Health in Columbus and was the Administrator and Executive Secretary for the Southeast Ohio Dept of Public Health in Athens. She also worked for the Telephone company as an operator back when homes did not have individual phone lines, but rather operated on 'party' lines.

Sally was a proud servant in the Athens Chapter 175 Order of the Eastern Star (69-year member), member of Alpha Tau Chapter of Sigma Phi Gamma sorority for over 70 years holding numerous positions; lifetime member of American Legion Auxiliary and longtime member of AFAN (Athens Friends and Newcomers).

Sally loved music and spent many years playing the piano. She was also an avid bridge player loving the thrill of the game and socializing with friends. She loved hosting bridge parties at her home throughout the years. She also loved boating on Lake Cumberland with Joe, where they made many lifelong family friends. Sally also loved traveling throughout the country and abroad on organized tours.

Sally was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Athens and enjoyed attending Genoa Baptist Church in Westerville, Ohio.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, April 10th from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, 24 Morris Ave., Athens, OH 45701. Funeral service will be held Thursday, April 11th at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home by Pastor Frank Carl. Burial will be in W. Union St. Cemetery. Please share a memory, a note of condolence or sign the online register at www.jagersfuneralhome.com.

A special note of gratitude to Ciara Ross, Worthington Christian Village, and their caring staff as well as Luminary Hospice for providing such loving, compassionate care to Mom. Sally Jagers

Not sure what to say?

I hadn't seen Sally for several years. She was always classy and a well spoken lady. She assisted with many of my ancestors funeral services. Her husband Joe, could be and often was quite witty! I enjoyed conversations with him! Prayers to the family.
