My heartfelt condolences are offered to the family, many, many friends, colleagues and devoted army fans of Mr. Sam Gilliam. Mr. Sam Gilliam was an artist known for his groundbreaking work in abstract paintings on draped canvas. He was greatly admired by many fellow artists and all those who knew him. He became the first Black artist to represent the U.S. at the Venice Biennale cultural exhibition. May the love and many, many special memories you shared with your devoted loved one show how...

My Condolences.

In his first class of serious art students at McKinley High that 1962-63 school year, I recall he signed my yearbook, "May your pictures appear on the cover of time." A good and great teacher of the visual arts. All best to Sam and Dorothy's progeny. May he rest in peace.

What an incredible artist he was. We pray that God continues to strengthen and comfort the family during this difficult time.
