Burkhart Funeral Home - Crawfordsville Obituary

James Samuel (“Sam”) Jackman passed away on Sunday, August 27 at 2:00 p.m. surrounded by family.

Sam was born at Home Hospital in Lafayette, Indiana on May 5, 2000, one of three triplet children, to Chris and Lisa (Lefebvre) Jackman of Darlington.  Both survive.  His two siblings, Matthew Christopher Jackman (brother); and Mary Margaret Jackman (sister) also survive.

Sam was an honor’s student at North Montgomery High School.  He was going to be a junior this year.  Throughout his life he enjoyed being at school and appreciated learning.  Sam’s interests were vast but he particularly enjoyed math, science, history, military history, and writing.  He often talked about his aspiration to become a lawyer, a politician, or an astronomer.  Many believed Sam had the ability and maturity that enabled him to engage with a variety of people on many topics even at his young age.

We will remember Sam for many things including his charisma and natural ability to be a leader throughout his life.  He strove for continual self- improvement in both academics and sports.  Sam was a competitive athlete who played tennis, basketball, and golf.  He made numerous close friends due to being involved in sports since he was very young.

Sam became particularly passionate about golf as a teenager.  He studied, practiced, and took lessons regularly to improve his skills and his understanding of the game.  One of his goals was to play golf on a college team.

Sam inspired many people throughout his valiant fight of leukemia of almost two years.  Many witnessed his God given ability to exhibit huge amounts of courage, strength, patience, and positivity.  Sam made it ‘easy’ on others to be around him as he remained pleasant and appreciative even under dire circumstances.  Like everything else he had done in his life, he never gave up his resiliency, and he exhibited never ending hope and faith.

Sam was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Crawfordsville.

Also surviving are his maternal grandmother, Mary Lefebvre, and his paternal grandparents, Jim and Peggy Jackman, all of Darlington; uncles Chris Lefebvre (Emily) of Indianapolis and Greg Jackman of Arizona; cousins Jack Lefebvre, Alex Lefebvre, Nate Lefebvre of Indianapolis; and Megan Jackman, Joe Jackman, and Nicholas Jackman of Arizona.  He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Gren Lefebvre.

There will be a private, family funeral service.

A Celebration of Life memorial will be held on Saturday, September 2 at 3:00 p.m. at the North Montgomery High School gymnasium.  Everyone is welcome to attend.  Please enter the west doors (#12) by the high school commons.

Memorial contributions may be made in Sam’s honor to the Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County, 1104 Big Four Arch Road, Crawfordsville, IN  47933.

We are deeply sorry for your loss. We heard many great stories about Sam's courage and determination. From knowing his grand father, Gren It is not surprising that he inherited many of the great same qualities. God Bless all of the family during this very difficult time. ❤ Don and Noreen Threlkeld

We always don't understand why life sends us such curve balls, but know Sam is now living the life he dreamed of having. Our prayers are with you as you go thru grieving and then the healing.

May the Lord wrap his arms of comfort around your entire family during this time. My son Sam had the pleasure and honor of playing tennis against your Sam on many occasions throughout the years. Your Sam was a the epitome of sportsmanship and will be greatly missed on the tennis courts.
