Read MoreSam was a true friend to my husband, Danny Bakst. He always thought about Danny and when Danny had his strokes, Sam always called. He was a wonderful friend to me, he always sent me a cheese at Christmas. We always had so much fun at the University of Miami and at the away trips. He will be missed. My thoughts will be with his family. I will miss you Sam.

Sam was my first real mentor and I thank him and your entire family for bringing me into your family during my time at WSU. Sam and I stayed in touch over the years at NCAA conventions and meetings where we would see one another. A great man! I hope all is well with the family. Take care.

Knew Sam from the WSU days, fabulous human being, extraordinary man. He texted me about 2 weeks before he passed just wanting to congratulate me on some small win. How many 80 something year old men keep current like that! A great gift to all of us this man was!
