Not sure what to say?

Dear Paula,

We were deeply saddened to learn of Sam's death. Chet had recently recommended that a defense group retain Sam for what would have been an interesting assignment. He got the unhappy news today from a Birmingham colleague who was part of the group. We loved being with you both and have such fond memories of the many times we were together, at ABA meetings and other occasions. Please accept our sympathy in this sad time.

Paula, please stay in touch. We would love to...

Dear Paula,

I was so sorry to hear of Sam's death. I have known him for more than sixty years and he was as fine a person that ever lived. I tried law suits in thirty-six states and four foreign countries--he was absolutely the finest judge I ever knew.

My deepest sympathy to you and the family.

My grandmother, Dina Butcher Shearer, raised you and we will always have fond memories.

I did not know Judge Pointer, but I was saddened to hear of his passing. He presided over some of the most diffiicult cases involving our state and region with fairness and integrity. Please know mu thoughts and...

It is with deep sorrow I learned this morning of Sam's passing. He filled a very important spot in my life--that of "best friend" since we were both 10 years old. Even though seperated by many miles, when we spoke, he seemed to know what I was going to say and I knew what he was going to say. I shall always miss him. My deepest sympathy Paula and family.
