CLOSED-Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, Inc - Kingstree Obituary

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.   John 14: 1-3

Samuel Lee “Jimmy” Alston was born on Friday, March 26, 1948 in Nesmith, South Carolina. He was the third of six children born to the late Salters Alston and Jane Morris Alston. He was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene “Feg” Alston.

He received his formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County at Battery Park School in Nesmith, South Carolina.

At an early age, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and became a member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Nesmith, South Carolina, where he served faithfully as a member of the United Methodist Men (Circle #4) and was a trustee until his health declined.

Samuel Lee “Jimmy” Alston was united in holy matrimony to  Ella Louise “Wease” Cunningham on his birthday, March 26, 1990. This union was blessed with one child, Ella Yvette “Bookie” Alston.

“Jimmy as he was affectionately called, was a very friendly and outgoing person. He had a passion for sports and especially had a deep love for the Buffalo Bills, Boston Celtics and Atlanta Braves. Jimmy also enjoyed following college and high school sports and rarely missed a sporting event in Williamsburg County. Jimmy also loved music and usually would be the first person on the dance floor. Most of all, Jimmy loved making precious memories with his family by cooking barbeque, sharing vegetables from his garden and taking lots of pictures.

Jimmy was a very dedicated and hard worker. At a young age, he moved to Rochester, New York and was employed at Rochester    International Airport, Gerber and John Lee Busch, Inc. After relocating back to Kingstree, South Carolina, he greatly enjoyed his career as a Right-of-Way Foreman at Santee Electric Co-op for many years.

On Friday afternoon, August 12, 2022, God whispered to Jimmy, “Job well done” and peacefully called his hardworking and faithful servant home where he can be at eternal peace.

Though the presence of one so dear is no more, he leaves to cherish his loving memory: his wife, Ella Louise “Wease” Alston of the home; two daughters, Ella Yvette “Bookie” Alston of the home and Natasha Randolph of Rochester, NY; three sons,  Fredrick    Randolph, Samuel Randolph, and Jeffrey Randolph, all of Rochester, NY; a brother, Salters (Rebecca) Alston of Orlando, FL; three sisters, Janie Mae Cooper of Rochester, NY, Mary Jane Alston Wilson and Deloris (Charles)  Riggins, both of Kingstree, SC; one brother-in-law, James “Son” Cunningham of Rochester, NY; two   sisters-in-law, Betty Lou Alston of Nesmith, SC and Mary Lee (Harris) Dukes of Rochester, NY; one aunt, Rosa Morris of  Rochester, NY; one great-aunt, Rosa Morris Dansby of Kingstree, SC; a very dutiful neighbor, Kenneth (Loretta) Williams, who was always by his side; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
