It was a shock to receive your email that Sam had passed. I had the pleasure of working with Sam at PDE and he was inspirational to me. He took his job and the impact it would have on teachers and children very seriously. He was a role model to many of us. He used to speak of all of you with great fondness.

During our brief conversations at Hetrick's, I realized more fully the breadth and depth of the legacy of Sam. Not only did he educate and finely tune many professionals in the field of special education but he left the most wonderful of families. Sam was the best of colleagues. It seems he, too, never went home. Nearly every time I shot an email to him (usually desperate for clarity of thinking), I got his response within 10 minutes! And often his response...
