BERGER, Samuel, Jr. - Of Flint, age 73, died Wednesday, May 7, 2003 at Genesys Hospice Care Center in Goodrich. Funeral service will be held at 1PM Saturday, May 10, 2003 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Calvon Kidder officiating. Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Samuel was born in Excelsior, West Virginia on October 29, 1929 and was a resident of Flint since 1966. He married Lois Hickman on July 8, 1972. He was a member of Eureka Masonic Lodge. Samuel served in the U.S. Marines and the U.S. Air Force during Korean and the Vietnam Wars. He was a counselor for Heart of the City in Flint. Samuel retired in 1991 from Chevrolet Truck and Bus after 15 years. Surviving are wife, Lois; 4 children, Dawnette and husband Gus Jefferson, Kevin Berger, Tammy Cushman, all of Flint, Yvette Berger and husband Travis Hein of Bay City; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; mother, Bessie Berger of Virginia; 7 sisters and a brother; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Keith; father, Samuel, Sr. and sister, Catherine Batts.
