Flaherty's Memorial Funeral Home - Conception Harbour Obituary

COLE, Samuel Frederick - Passed away suddenly on February 9th, 2023 - Age 54.  Left with broken hearts to mourn forever, his mother, Marie Cole (Aiden) and his father, Bernard Cole (Mary), his sisters: Brenda Cole (Pete), Linda Corbett (Joe-predeceased) and Bernadette Cole-Gendron (Daniel).  Also left behind, his very special Aunt, Jean Cahill and his most beloved Uncle, Patrick Griffin, his much loved cousin/ 'like-sister' Mary Alice Ryan (Gerry) and her son Gerry Ryan Jr. (Jennifer) with whom he shared a very special bond.  Sammy also leaves behind his nieces, Jenna and Gabrielle and nephews: Kyle, Robert, Dylan, Brady, Shane and Nathan.  Also left behind are a large circle of other close family members and friends.

Sammy grew up down in Colliers Harbour, in what many kids today would consider an idyllic childhood.  Summer days were carefree, filled with catching tom cods off Tom Doyle's stagehead, playing softball in the garden, road hockey in the streets and star-filled nights playing hide and seek on Mick Lewis' hill.  Winter days were filled with skating and ice hockey on Graces' Pond and Coles' Pond, building snow forts, snow-ball fights and tobogganing.  His always constant companions were the 'Ghaney' boys from the 'bottom' of Colliers Harbour - the antics they would get up to could fill the pages of a book.

Sammy spent the majority of his adult years in Ontario working in the automotive manufacturing industry.  He was a lover of music and was an active member in one band or another throughout the years with his instrument of choice being the bass guitar.  Also an avid storyteller, he could bring a room together with his charisma, quick wit and humour.

The family would like to extend a heartful thanks to Mr. Herb Miller of St. John's who was Sammy's companion during his last days.

Resting at Flaherty's Memorial Funeral Home, 70 Conception Bay Highway, Conception Harbour, with visitation on Friday, February 17th from 6:00pm - 9:00pm.

Donations in Sammy's memory can be made to the Tommy Sexton Centre.

Not sure what to say?

Rest in Peace Sammy.

To all Sammy’s family. I want you to know that my heart and soul is with you all and you’re in my prayers. I cared about Sam and every time we were in each other’s company we would talk and I think he appreciated that. He spent a lot of time in his younger years on the North Side playing ball hockey on the road, with my boys, Norman and Glen and others whose names I can’t remember. Sam was well liked by us oldies, mainly because of his polite mannerisms. But also because he was a genuine...
