We wish to extend our very deepest sympathy to Sam Houston McDonald and the Ewing family on the loss of Sam. He was the greatest ambassador the Irish Wolfhound ever had. His shoes will never be filled. Through his generosity we shared one of his lovely dogs with him this past year for which we will be forever grateful. Rest in peace dear Sam.

When the first Irish Wolfhound walked into my life twenty nine years ago, the Hound's Man Sam Evans was already part of oral tradition amoung the circle of those blessed with the husbandship and true companionship of the dogs of ancient kings. Although I never met him, from tales of whelping pen watchovers to wardrobe I knew a kindred spirit. As the great hounds he so loved; the loss is immeasurable, exceeded only by the Gifts left with us.

Sam was a unique individual, always a gentleman, and so helpful to many. My condolences to Sam M. and to the Ewing family. I was always impressed by how much the Eagle hounds vied for Sam's attention, and how content they were when they were with him. This speaks of the great admiration they had for each other. A great loss for many in Sam's passing. Fortunately, the Eagle hounds were shared with caring people, and some judicious breeders, so the legacy Sam left, will impact on our wonderful...

I visited the States in September 2003. I wish I had had a chance to meet Mr Ewing then, now it is too late.
One of the Greats has gone, may he be in peace now. I want to believe he is with his beloved hounds now.
My deepest condolences to his family and friends.
