Samuel David Gruver, 75, of Lexington, Oklahoma, formerly of Gruver, Texas passed away Saturday, December 27, 2025 in Norman, Oklahoma. Viewing will be held Friday, January 2, 2026 from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Saturday, January 3, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Spearman. A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Gruver Church of Christ in Gruver, Texas.  Cremation arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, Inc.

Sam was born on November 10, 1950, in Guymon, Oklahoma, to Paul and Mary Gruver. Sam resided in Gruver Tx, most of his life, with some stints of living in Cimarron, New Mexico. He graduated from Cimarron High in 1970. Sam had an adventurous life. He held a wide array of jobs, from farming to mechanic to feedlot and public works. He also enjoyed an outdoor life full of hobbies. He enjoyed hunting and trapping, camping and fishing, teaching his kids and grandkids about the great outdoors. He was a true history lover and archaeology fanatic. He led a busy life and never seemed to slow down or fully retire, but no matter what, he always had time to tell a story or teach someone about almost anything. Sam was also very dedicated to serving his communities. He had served for over 50 years in the fire service, both in Cimarron and Gruver. He was also the Fire Chief for the Gruver Vol. Fire Dept for approximately 30 plus years, as well as being a member of the EMS service for over 20 years. Over his long life, he managed to make many, many friends, and he showed his capacity for caring for his fellow man. He was loved by many.

Sam is survived by two daughters. Denise Cordova of Trinidad, Colorado, and her four children and five grandchildren; Autumn Gruver of Lexington, Oklahoma, grandkids Astyn Kennedy (David) of Perryton TX and grandsons Elliot and Wayne, and Khairi Kennedy (Cody Hunt) of Norman, OK and granddaughter Emeri K., as well as granddaughter Zoey Red.

Sam is also survived by his brother Allen Gruver (Eleanor) of Cimarron and his sister Mollie Gruver of Cimarron, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, adopted kids, and grandkids.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mary Gruver, his sister Patricia Gruver of Cimarron, and his brother Mart Gruver (Debbie) of Rowell. As well as his great-grandson, Jaxson D. Hunt, who was named after his great-grandfather.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Gruver Vol. Fire Dept. or any of one’s favorite charities.
