Muriel and I are grieved at the loss of a dear friend. The world is also lessened by the passing of Sam. Much love. Muriel and Maurie

"Wonderful" is an over-used word. Yet it keeps coming insistingly to mind when I try describing Sam Lawton. He was a lawyer's lawyer, a deep thinking, generous and very kind individual, with a modest openness about him that belied his many accomplishments. He was one of the great people in the development and implementation of environmental law in Illinois. He will be remembered fondly and with the greatest respect. My heartfelt condolences to his many loved ones.

My deepest sympathy to all of Sam's family. He was a great person, and he gave me sound advice and support at some vital crossroads.

I was a law student of Mr. Lawton at John Marshall Law School sometime between 1952 and 1957. I remember his kind and yet authoritive demeanor. He was an inspiration to me and to other young aspiring lawyers. I did not know about his Illinois National Guard service, having just completed my service with Air Guard and Air Force from 1948 to 1952. He was a great teacher, and you must be very proud of him. I never forgot him. Sincerely
