I would be remiss if I did not share how most every time Pappaw and I had a chance to talk... he invariably would mention his "Sweetheart", reminiscing on how precious the memories were to his heart and his special love for his beloved Ruth... how he prayed for and worried about her so. He would smile and his eyes just shined that true love-light. There could be no doubting his spousal love, affections and provision. And of course, Pappaw shared memories of each of his children, all of whom...

For every time there is a season, and in every season there is a lesson. If Sam kissed your life, as he did mine, what I learned was great. It was full of his heart, eye to eye contact, stories of remembrance, stories of hard times, stories of laughter.
Sam's old-fashioned way of communicating his heart it is a lost art. Writing letters , poems, and cards, we need more of that!
Tell someone you love them, hold their hand, take a walk....

A Poem for Pappaw

In your presence I could be me,
Enjoying a by-gone West Virginia simplicity.

How those tales of old you told,
Did enthrall me as gifts of my heart to hold as gold.

You were my very own "Zeb Walton" for a wonderful while,
Ah, that same southern drawl, that look in your eyes with a mischievous flash of your smile.

Each priceless interaction at the bird feeders became,
A chance to hear a precious Pappaw story...

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. I still feel as a part of this family and I am remembering Sam and all of you on this sad day.
