I've just returned from my vacation and am saddened and shocked by Sam's death. Not shocked. I knew that it would come some day; but that doesn't make it easier.
I was honored to have studied with Sam a few years ago at my synagogue, temple shir tikvah. He found out that my dad was an old woodwinds man from the big dance era, and--and this is a few years ago-he had the energy to still teach. To the Family and Friends of Sam,
Sam was my Dad, Harry Fishburne's, roommate at the Woodbriar in Wilmington up until he passed away this past February. I continue to play the piano for the residents at the Woodbriar every week and Sam would either come over to listen or I would stop by and see him before I left. He offered me some very good advice on my rhythm and timing and I thank him for that. Sam loved his "Root Beer Barrels" and I was happy to bring them to him by the bagfuls! Sam...
