DALZELL – Samuel Frank Pierro, 92, of Dalzell, died peacefully in the early morning


hours of July 21, 2025 at Allure of Peru.


Born December 17, 1932 in Spring Valley to Samuel and Pearl (Michels) Pierro. He


married Joan Orlandi Sept. 6, 1952, in St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Dalzell. She


preceded him in death on April 4, 2006.


Together, they owned and operated Pierro Food Mart in Dalzell until retiring. His earlier


career included management positions at Bassick Casters in Spring Valley and Service


Transportation Lines.  He was a member of the Dalzell Rod and Gun Club, where he enjoyed 


fishing every day in retirement.


Surviving is his son, Daniel (Roberta) Pierro of Springfield, IL and daughter, Jill Barratt


of Dalzell. Three grandchildren, Ross (Kelly) Pierro of Springfield, Carolyn (Colt) Klein


of Springfield, and Benjamin Pierro of Chicago and 3 great grandchildren, Harrison,


Maxwell, and Aidan Klein of Springfield. Also surviving is his brother-in-law Gary (Luanne)


Orlandi of Dalzell and long-time companion, Lee Baima of Oglesby, and several nieces


and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Joan, and sister Rosemary Mattioda.


Private graveside service at Valley Memorial Park on August 9, followed by a 


celebration of life for family and friends at Verucchi’s Ristorante in Spring Valley at noon.

My deepest sympathy on Sam's passing. I hope you find comfort and peace in the happy memories that you shared. I am so glad that we were able to meet and strike up a special bond at Allure. I think of you often and the kindness you showed to my dad with your daily conversations up at the front desk about area sports, the White Sox, and area athletes....it meant a lot to him and also to me. Wishing you peace and sending hugs........
