Samuel Rath, 90, Tuttle, passed away on July 29, 2006, at High Acres Nursing Home in Jamestown, ND. Services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, August 2, at the Tuttle United Methodist Church, Tuttle, with Rev. Ted Rath officiating. Burial will be in the Tuttle Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel, Steele, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Samuel was born on August 29, 1915, near Tuttle, ND, the son of John and Elizabeth (Spah) Rath. He grew up on the family farm near Tuttle and attended rural school. He married Edna Hoff on January 30, 1937 in Steele, ND. They made their home in Tuttle where Sam had various jobs (WPA, railroad, farming, and Conoco bulk service) before going to work for Tuttle Grain in 1947. He became manager of the elevator in 1966 and retired after 34 years of service with the elevator in 1981.
Sam was a member of the Tuttle United Methodist Church, the men's quartet, and was a church trustee for 20 years. He was also active in the community and served on the town board for three years.
Sam is survived by his wife, Edna of Tuttle; two sons, Duane (Roberta) of Fremont, NE, and Keith (Jan) of Portal, ND; six grandchildren, Dana (Perry) Rebhuhn of Cedar Rapids, IA, Dee (Tony) Felici of Omaha, NE, Kamille (Mike) Yost of Pratt, KS, Nichole (Jeff) Pahl of High River, AB Canada, Amy (Jonathan) Ziegler of Wahpeton, ND, and Keith Samuel (Lindsay) of Gillette, WY; eleven great-grandchildren, Robert and Rachel Rebhuhn, Steffanie, Brittnee and Joey Felici, McKenzie Yost, Adam and Joshua Pahl, Makyl and Treyden Ziegler, and Taylor Rath; his sisters, Rose Scherbenske of Tuttle and Erna Weisenberger of Alexandria, MN; his brother, Reuben of Minot; his brothers-in-law, Milton (Jan) Hoff of Fountain Hills, AZ, and Harold Schreiber of Wahpeton, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Jake and John; his sisters, Lydia Lutz and Amelia Bauer; his sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Rath, Amelia Rath, Albina Rath, Ruth Schreiber, Viola Ketchersid, and Emma Meier; and his brothers-in-law, Robert Scherbenske, Bert Weisenberger, August Lutz, Christ Bauer, Foy Ketchersid, Fred Meier, and Kelly Hoff.
Sam greatly loved his family and extremely enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was always especially proud of all his nieces and nephews.
