On Samantha Tapia''s first birthday, she hoped to get a call from her daddy. It never came _ that was the day Samuel Tapia was killed. "He always wanted to make people so happy and he was a great guy, father and husband," said his wife, Jacqueline Tapia. "All he wanted was his daughter to be taken care of." Tapia, 20, of San Benito, Texas, died Dec. 18 from small-arms fire in Ramadi. He was a 2004 high school graduate and was assigned to Twentynine Palms. After Samuel''s death, Jacqueline said she found some comfort in a military colleague with whom she spoke shortly after her husband was killed. "A buddy of his, who was there when he was shot, called me and told me he died like a Marine," she said. "He said he fought the death as hard as he could." Jacqueline and Samuel met while working at the fast-food restaurant Whataburger. After graduating, he enlisted. "He knew he was going to go to Iraq, so he wanted to get married and start a family before he left," his wife said. Jacqueline said her husband wanted to be in the military ever since he was a child. "All he ever wanted to do was be a Marine," she said.
