I first met Sam when he managed Schweitzer ski area and I tried to get them to join the National Ski Patrol System. I never managed to do so but when Sam moved to Mt. Spokane which had and still has one of the nations best ski patrols Sam totally changed his mind and was a very big supported of the ski patrol

I learned to ski at Schweitzer when I was 6, in 1963 and Same was such an integral part of every weekend on the slopes. There was nothing to match the radio ski report beginning, "This is Sam from Schweitzer". He left behind many wonderful memories for my generation of snow skiiers.

Like many others I first met Sam at Schweitzer in it's infancy. It's impossible to think of skiing in the Inland Northwest without thinking of Sam and all he did for the sport and industry. He laid the groundwork for Schweitzers success.I would hope that both Schweitzer and Mt Spokane would display a lasting tribute to his legacy for all to remember and to educate those who did'nt know this remarkable man.My condolences to his family.RIP Sam, you will truly be missed.

Sam and I became friends in the following years and he came in my snowski shop in...
