Sandra Gwen Wasserman

Sandi was a force of nature in our community! I feel privileged to have been her friend. We had fun times together in a book club for many years--our members remember her fondly. When she lost her house during the recession, she was positive and upbeat. She was a model for making lemonade out of lemons, and I appreciate her sunny attitude and dedication to our community.

Wellspring Women's Center honors the legacy of our dear friend Sandi Wasserman. A long time donor and volunteer, Sandi blessed Wellspring in a myriad of ways. Sandi greeted guests at the door, facilitated a poetry group, and helped with Hanukkah celebrations. For many years, she gifted Wellspring with space at the Vizcaya for our fundraising events. The Wellspring community is deeply grateful for her life and love. She will be missed.

Sandi was beloved in the Sacramento poetry community and I will never forget the wonderful parties she hosted along with poetry readings at Vizcaya. Her beautiful artwork was stunning, and she gave me great advice on how to stock a refrigerator and decorate for a party! She absolutely knew how to make everyone feel welcome and loved, especially her family.

I met and spoke with Sandy only a couple of times, but our conversations stand out in my memory because she was so supportive and enthusiastic about the idea of bringing senior theater to Sacramento based on the Stagebridge model in the Bay Area. Her warmth and kindness were a bright light I never forgot as a newcomer to the area.

I met Sandy in 1983 or 84´. She gave me my first perm. It was great. She often spoke of her children Elizabeth and Karl. She was my hairstylist for several years. She was down to earth, kind and good natured. I´m sorry to hear of her passing. I´m glad I was able to know her. I remember she wore wrap around skirts sometimes and got me interested in making a few myself. She said her aunt made them for her. It´s funny what you remember.
