While on leave from Iraq, Sandy R. Britt met his family in Myrtle Beach, S.C. His mother knew why. "The beach was something that would relax him," Sarah Arnold said. "That's why we met in Myrtle Beach." Britt, 30, of Apopka, Fla., was killed Aug. 21 by an explosive near Baghdad. He was a 1994 high school graduate and was assigned to Fort Bragg. His aunt, Jane Owen, said she never expected Britt to become a casualty. "I never thought that Sandy wouldn't have made it back because of how he was," she said. "Sandy didn't show fear." He played soccer and enjoyed martial arts and surfing. Before joining the Army, Britt served with a Navy underwater-demolition unit, his mother said. "He had been on special missions while he was in the Navy," she said. "There was a lot I wasn't allowed to know, but I know he was in Afghanistan and other places on secret missions." He also is survived by his wife, Valorie, and son, Taylor, 5. "I got a call from his captain at Fort Bragg about how much he will be missed," Arnold said. "He said he was an exemplary soldier who always tried to do more."

Please accept my remembrance of Sandy on the anniversary of his passing and know that he will never be forgotten.

Almost 4 years later and your memory is still with us all brother.

Sandy.

I've been struggling to find the words since your anniversary yesterday. If you only new how much everyone missed you and how much of an impact you left. My thoughts go out to your family. I'll always think of you as my brother.

I just wanted to let Sandy's family know that I walked for him at the "Warrior Walk" held in Lakeland. I sincerely appreciate the sacrifice that you have made, and the ultimate price that Sandy paid for my freedom. We will never forget him!

Today (8/22/10) my 5 year old son walked in your memory at the 2010 Run for the Fallen. My Father-in-Law was a Navy Diver and my husband is AF EOD. We thank you for your sacrifice. RIP!!
