Sanjiv Handa

Sadly I just found out last night at our committee meeting in Oakland. What a sad loss. Sanjiv was one of a kind and you knew always had the interest of Oakland at heart - even if his path there was circuitous. His attendance at our meetings always made you sit a little taller, listen a little more closely, and speak a little more thoughtfully - knowing you were representing the interests of the community. I haven't seen Sanjiv since we were at Berkeley together, but it was impossible to forget him. He was a brilliant and charming man! My condolences to his family.

I was shocked and sad to hear of Sanjiv's death. Many times when Sanjiv spoke at a myrid of public meetings, especially Oakland City Council, he captured the attention of those of us who believed in public disclosure and debate. I have known Sanjiv for almost 20 years. Thus, I knew him more as a friend rather than the gadfly journalist. My good brother, I will really miss you.

Sanjiv Handa was one of a kind. Mr. Handa did more to advance open debate in Oakland than anyone else in recent memory. I am deeply saddened and shocked at his early passing. I offer my sincerest condolences to his family and friends. It is often said that only when a person is no longer with us do we fully realize how much they meant to us.
