Trinity at Harrison Funeral Home - Harlingen Obituary

Santiago “Jimmy” Garcia, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and beloved uncle, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on August 8, 1944, in Harlingen, Texas to Jesus Balli Garcia and Aurora Alvarez Garcia, Jimmy dedicated his life to nurturing the land he cherished, leaving a lasting legacy rooted in hard work and faith.

For 59 years, Jimmy was the loving husband of Viola Jasso Garcia, with whom he built a life filled with devotion and shared stories. His bold spirit and sharp wit earned him both admiration and affection from those who knew him. A God-fearing man, Jimmy found solace in reading, particularly the Bible, which guided his life, alongside other cherished books.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Viola Jasso Garcia; his sister, Herlinda Edwards; his son, Eliud Garcia; his daughter, Cynthia I. Love; his granddaughters, Caitlyn Love Newton (Cody), mother to Levi Love Newton, and Courtney Rhea Love; and his grandson, Landon Michael Love. He loved his grandchildren and great-granddaughter dearly, and his joy in sharing stories with family and friends will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation and funeral services will be held at Trinity Funeral Home Chapel of the Holy Spirit in Harlingen, Texas, on Friday, July 11, 2025 beginning at 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm with a prayer service to be held at 7:00 pm Friday evening. Chapel service will be held on Saturday July 12, 2025 at 10:00 am with Rev. Robert Rodriguez officiating. Interment will follow to Alvarez Family Cemetery.

Jimmy’s legacy of faith, resilience, and love for his family and land will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
