Schneider Funeral Directors Obituary

JANESVILLE--- Santina "Sandy" S. York, age 75, a lifelong resident of Janesville, died on Sunday, May 15, 2011, at Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center following a stroke. She was born in Janesville on June 20, 1935, the first daughter of Thomas and Mary (Falci) Moccero. She attended St. Patrick's School until 1951 and graduated from Janesville High School in 1954. Sandy married Andrew (Andy) W. York in St. William's Catholic Church on May 25, 1957, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 2009. Sandy was employed by Fisher Body (GM) until the birth of her first child in 1958. She later worked at Montgomery Ward, followed by the Wisconsin School for the Visually Handicapped, and eventually retired from the JEA Credit Union. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Janesville Women's League, and long served as Treasurer for the local chapter of AARP. Sandy also worked at the election polls for many years. Sandy's first priority was always her family, and her grandchildren were her greatest joy. She also thoroughly enjoyed her many excursions on Van Galder's Majesty Tours "Restaurant of the Month" trips, making new friends each time. Her recent vacation to Hawaii was another highlight, as she continued to "hula" almost every night before bedtime. Sandy is survived by her 5 children: Stephen York of Denver, CO, Richard (Jacquelyn) York of Homer Glen, IL, Patti (Dennis) Beggs of Janesville, Monica York of St. Paul, MN, and Pamela (James) Reilly of Union Grove, WI; 8 grandchildren: Joshua York of Denver, CO, Benjamin York of Stanford, CA, Sarah and Jonathan York of Homer Glen, IL, Cal Beggs of Janesville, Amber McMannes of Janesville, Carson McMannes of Madison, and Dylan Reilly of Verona; 2 sisters: Antoinette (John) Collins and Loretta (the late John) Krueger, both of Janesville; sister-in-law, Cleo Whitworth of North Little Rock, AR; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her namesake and grandmother, Santina Moccero; her parents; husband; brother, Jimmy; and many brothers and sisters-in-law in Arkansas and Texas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2011, at ST. MARY'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Janesville with Rev. Stephen J. Umhoefer officiating. Entombment will be in Milton Lawns Mausoleum. A visitation will be held on Friday, May 20, 2011, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to follow for those wishing to participate, at SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME. The family would like to extend special thanks to Sandy's CNA Dana McLain of Brightstar, the paramedics and staff at Mercy Hospital's Emergency and ICU departments, and the many friends and neighbors who have helped and supported her over the years.

Dear Pam and Monica, Your Mom was a very special person in my life for such a long time. We worked hand-in-hand together at M.W. in the auto dept. You 2 were my babysitters. The years have gone by, but I have often thought of your family. My condolences and prayers go out to all of you. Sandy was a very special woman!

Dear Patti, Louie and I are so sorry to hear about your Mother's passing. Our thoughts are with you.

We are so sorry to hear about Aunt Sandy's passing. She will be greatly missed. I remember the first time I met Aunt Sandy and being in their wedding. We always had so much fun on our family reunions. Uncle Andy liked to tease Aunt Sandy and when someone told a funny joke she would laugh till it sounded like she was crying. The York family were a lot of fun. Lots of fond memories. We love all of you and you will be in our thoughts and prayers.
