Santos Quintanilla, age 100 of Hobart, IN passed away Saturday, December 11, 2021 at home with his loved ones by his side. 


Santos was born on August 2, 1921 in Cameron County, Texas to the late Cecilo and Leocadia Quintanilla. Santos proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during WWII and was always proud to attend Veterans Day programs with his Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren. He retired from Inland Steel in 1983 after 37 years of working as a Millwright. Santos was a devoted Christian who enjoyed being involved with his church at Barrington Ridge Baptist Church, he enjoyed many summers with his family camping at Yogi Bear Campground in Pierceton, IN and during winter months he proudly considered himself a Winter Texan. Santos enjoyed being a member of the United Steelworkers Union and the American Legion Post #508 in East Chicago, IN he always looked forward to the annual picnics. 


He is survived by his children Rhoda (Daniel) Zapata, Luke Quintanilla, Ruth (Shawn) Corle; six grandchildren, Irma (Brian) Kincaide, Danny Ray Zapata, Jason (Mindi) Corle, Jeffrey (Breanna) Corle, Rhoda Renee (Scott) Soto and John Anthony Zapata; his twenty-one great-grandchildren, Emilleo Zapata, Tristan Zapata, Zachary Zapata, Abigail Zapata, Calvin Alcox, Aidan Kincaide, Angelina Corle, Addison Corle, Shawn Corle, Eli Kincaide, Alaina Corle, Angelo Soto, Arilenna Zapata, Brock Ronjak, Maddex Corle, Daniella Zapata, Xavier Zapata, Avah Corle, Liam Zapata, Ariel Soto; his great-great grandson Emilleo Zapata Jr.; many nieces and nephews. 


He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth Quintanilla; his first wife, Lupe Marquez Quintanilla and infant son; parents, Cecilo and Leocadia Quintanilla; brothers, Catarino (Sophia) Quintanillla and Juan Silvas.


A funeral service for Santos will take place Friday, December 17, 2021 at 10:00 am at Barrington Ridge Baptist Church, 97 Bracken Parkway, Hobart, IN. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 16, 2021 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, IN.
