Sara Lee Barney passed away peacefully on December 21, 2020 at her home in Sebring, FL, surrounded by her family. She was born on November 8, 1934 to Romie B. and Olive Workman in Lafayette, Indiana. She is survived by her loving husband Richard Lee Barney and they had just celebrated 67 years of marriage on December 12, 2020. Sara is the loving and devoted mother to; Kathy Jo Stoner and Michael Lee Barney. Grandchildren; Beth Bell, Lucas Moore, Kristy Barney and Brad (Jessica) Moore. Three great-grandchildren; Jaydin Bell, Mary K. Bell and Teagan Moore. All of these she loved and touched deeply. She has one surviving sister, Hallie Shepherd of Dale, IN. She was proceeded in death by her parents, a sister Anna Mae Miller, and a brother Romie B. Workman. Sara had over 40 years of experience working in the medical field, starting at Marion Family Practice with Dr. Dunbar. She then worked for Dr. Max Ganz and was a radiology medical clerk at Marion General Hospital until her retirement in 1999. Her hands were rarely still. Sara owned her own embroidery business for several years, S&K Monogramming, and during those years embroidered thousands of bowling shirts, sport shirts, and jackets. Her interest included sewing, paper tole, cooking, crocheting, bowling, dancing and reading. Her life was a living example of Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32- “ And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.” Sara was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as a Grandmother/Great grandmother. She always told you the truth even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear. A wife, a mother, a grandma too, this is the legacy we have from you. You taught us love, grit, and how to fight for what we believe in, you gave us strength, you gave us might. A stronger person would be hard to find, and in your heart, you were always kind. You fought for us all in one way or another, not just as a wife not just as a mother. She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her smile and laugh. She made friends everywhere she went and her customers over the years loved her as well. Sara left her family and friends beautiful memories we will all cherish forever. Her love will still be our guide, and though we cannot see her, she will always be by our side. She will be greatly missed by many. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Compassionate Care Hospice and Pastor Ron DeGenaro at St. John United Methodist Church, Sebring.
“ Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us everyday”
In lieu of flowers the family would request donations be made to Florida Cancer Specialist and Research, 1396 Whisper Circle, Sebring, FL 33870.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
