Sarah was born in Los Angeles, CA on March 12, 1940, the 6th child of 7 children to Esequiel and Esperanza Marquez.
She lived 83 years and died peacefully on November 5, 2023
She lived and attended schools in Los Angeles, first attending grammar school at Murchinson, then Lincoln Jr High and graduating in 1958 from Roosevelt High School, where she made lifelong friendships and met the love of her life, Joe Manzano.
She and Joe were married on June 27, 1959. In the late 1960's they moved their young family to La Puente, CA. They were married for 48 years before he preceded her in death in 2007. They enjoyed spending time with their families and many friends. They had a happy life together, raising 4 children, three of those children producing 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. As well as countless Godchildren. The love she had for her family and friends was endless.
When her sons were playing baseball, she also was very active with being on the Ladies Auxiliary at Syhre Park for Bassett Little League, as well as being the Team Mom for several teams her sons were on.
Sarah was an active member of St. Louis of France Catholic Church for 55 years, as an Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister, Religious Education teacher and Confirmation Leader. During that time, she always looked forward every year to “Congress”... a convention for religious educators.
For close to 30 years, she was employed by the Bassett Unified School District as a Instructional Assistant in the classroom, first at Bassett Elementary and ending her career at Sunkist Elementary. In those many years with BUSD, she made an impact on many students and made even more lifelong friendships. In those many years, she was also involved in the PTA receiving the prestigious Golden Oak Award. Even after retirement, she continued to be involved with BUSD by joining committees to better the district and community.
As we bid farewell to Sarah Manzano, let us remember her for the love she shared, the faith she embodied, and the kindness that defined her. When you think of her, be reminded of her smile and laughter...she loved a good joke!
May her soul find eternal peace, and may her memory continue to inspire us all.

Sarah was a very big influence on my life. Since we were the close in age she always took the time to engage in conversations with me or take the time to read children's books to me. My favorite was "A Visit from Saint Nicholas" also known as "Twas the Night Before Christmas." She read that book to me as many times as I asked her to without ever complaining. I was about 4 years old and I heard it so many times that I could read it to myself. She must have seen something in me that prompted...
