Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel - Hobart Obituary

Sarah “Sissy” Jane Smith, beloved mother, Nana, sister, and friend, passed away on March 21, 2024, at the age of 64.  She was born on June 24, 1959, to John Arthur and Bettie Jane Jordan in Morehead, Kentucky and most recently resided in Hobart, Indiana.

Sarah had a zest for life and was known for her diverse range of hobbies.  She found joy in crafting, camping, fishing, and cooking meals fit for an army.  Her vibrant spirit shone through whenever she belted out Cher tunes during karaoke sessions.

Above all else, Sarah cherished her family and adored spending time with her grandchildren.  Nothing brought her greater happiness than being in their presence.  While she lived in Northwest Indiana most of her life, her heart longed for home in Olive Hill, Kentucky where her parents resided.  She would often spend summers there with her children and grandchildren, traversing the trails at Carter Caves State Park.

Sarah is survived by her brother, John Arthur Jordan, Jr.; children, Jodi (Doug) Wentz, Derinda DeLeon, and Merissa (Frank) Curley; and former husband, Richard (Stacey) Smith.  Her legacy lives on through her adoring grandchildren, Nicholas McCreight, Brett Kozenchik, Douglas Wentz, Jr., Caitlin Martinez, Felicity Martinez, Korah DeLeon, Andrew DeLeon, Darius Curley, and Isaiah Curley.

In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her grandson, Christian Lee Smith, and partner, Kraig Neal.

Sarah will be remembered for her incredible sense of humor, and always sharing funny stories to bring smiles to those around her.  Sarah’s heart of gold was evident in her readiness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

The world lost a remarkable woman, but Sarah’s memory will live forever in the hearts of those who loved and admired her.

A memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00pm Wednesday, March 27 at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart, IN  46342, with a short service to follow at 7:00pm, also at Rees Hobart Chapel.

Not sure what to say?

I have many memories with Sara. One memorable moment was when she taught me how to make greenbean casserole! Back in the Bingo days she use to make a lot for many! She was always sweet and made 3 amazing daughters! I'm sure she will be missed dearly! My love to all the family. You are in my thoughts and prayers!

We will keep her family in our prayers. The last time we saw her was up in Olive Hill, in the hollow, beside her Momma, making life a little easier. We love all the Jordan family & will cherish the memories. The Randy Stamper family.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief. I have awesome memories of times spent with you guys in kentucky camping and the hours and hours spent at the house playing Yahtzee your mom always made everyone feel like family she will be missed

In loving memory of a wonderful person. I remember great memories as a kid of sarah her daughters. So sorry for the loss
