Sarah A. “Sally” Sutherland, age 90 of Bedford, MA, passed away on September 24, 2021.

Born in Newport, NH, Sally was the daughter of Charles and Alta Jobes. She was the beloved wife of Norman B. Sutherland, with whom she shared 65 years of marriage. Sally is survived by daughter Anne Ring, son Brian Sutherland and his wife Diane, and son Rob Sutherland and his wife Noni. Also, by grandchildren Caitlin, Kelly and Erin Ring, Laura and Jeremy Sutherland., and great granddaughter Sofie Coleman.

Sally graduated with a BS from UNH, and received a MS in Hospital Dietetics from Ohio State. She worked at the Mary Fletcher Hospital in Burlington, VT as assistant to the head dietitian until her marriage, transitioning to the role of full-time wife and superb mother of her three children.

Sally was active in church, singing in the choir with her husband for most of her married life.  She also chaired the New England suppers program, was a leader in the youth group, spearheaded a Welcome New People activity, and participated in many other church functions. During the kids’ college years Sally worked several jobs, at the VA Hospital in Bedford, MA, at Mass. Audubon’s Drumlin Farm in Lincoln, MA, as a resource person for Girl Scouts, and as secretary for Nolan Norton Co. She also found time to earn a Master’s degree in leisure studies from Boston University.

Through National Audubon and through Elderhostel, Sally and her husband traveled widely, to Maine, Wisconsin, Wyoming, Arizona, Montana, Russia, New Zealand, Australia, France, Alaska, Hawaii, Kenya. But always, her first and foremost priority was her role as wife and mother, done with pride and filled with love.
