William Scott Crandall, known as Scott, of Westerly, R.I. died Feb. 23, 2015 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. 
He was born on April 6, 1971 at the Submarine Base, Groton, Conn., the son of Douglas R. Crandall and the late Floy Nell Crandall, nee Reasoner.
He grew up in Gales Ferry and graduated from Ledyard High School in 1989. He enjoyed Cub Scouts, youth football and especially BMX bicycling.
After high school he traveled the U.S. extensively, living for a time in Palo Alto, Calif. where he was a shift supervisor for a popular coffee house.
For several years he was a commercial fisherman, first working a boat out of south N.J., then boats from Stonington and New London, Conn., including Neptune. He was last employed by Gambardella Wholesale Fish of Stonington. 
W. Scott was a Mayflower descendant of John Howland and a descendent of Elder John Crandall, one of the founders of Westerly, R.I. He was proud of his heritage and his time spent in commercial fishing. 
Scott is survived by his father, Douglas R. Crandall of Groton, his brothers, Byron Crandall of New London, Conn., Douglas Kent of Indialantic, Fla. and Dennis Green of Washington state; his sisters, Sandra Adams of Fort Collins, Colo., Patsy Covino of Niantic, Conn. and Joyce Green of Stonington, Conn.; and his companion of several years Anne Marie Tanner of Westerly, R.I.
