Scott Patrick Cummings, 59, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2025. Born in Fairfax, Virginia, Scott was the beloved son of the late William and Phyllis Cummings.
Scott was the beloved husband of Dawn Cummings. Besides his wife, Scott is survived by his siblings Alicia Morrissey, Sheree Lopez (Rick), Billy Cummings, and Kimberly Medica, father in law, Gerald Lynch and sister in law, Kerri Lynch as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, mother in law, Doris “Cookie” Lynch and nephew, Christopher Kearns.
He was a proud graduate of Virginia Tech, earning his business degree in 1987. A devoted Hokie and lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, he brought the same competitive spirit to everything he did—whether cheering on his teams or stepping onto the golf course. An avid and accomplished golfer, Scott was a multi-time winner of many member-guest tournaments, known for both his skill, humor and sportsmanship.
A lifelong music enthusiast, Scott especially enjoyed the music of Bruce Springsteen, whose songs and storytelling reflected his own appreciation for perseverance, friendship, and the moments that make life meaningful.
After college, Scott found his professional home in an industry and company he deeply loved. He began his career at Ross Industries in Northern Virginia, where he built lasting friendships and professional respect. In a bold and exciting move, he relocated to Rhode Island to join Ross’s sister company, REISER, in Canton, MA, where he continued to thrive and dedicate himself fully to his work.
Scott will be remembered for his competitive drive, his loyalty to friends and family, and his ability to bring laughter into any room. His presence, warmth, and humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A service to celebrate Scott’s life will be held on Friday, August 22nd at 10:00 AM - 12:00 noon in the O’Neill Funeral Home at 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland, RI, followed by a reception at Kirkbrae Country Club, 197 Old River Rd., Lincoln, RI. We hope you can join us in saying our final farewells.
