Ruggiero Funeral Home, LLC - Pen Argyl Obituary

Scott Deischer began his life on May 20, 1949 in Macungie, the son of Albert K. and Lorraine E. (Huber) Deischer. He is predeceased by his wife, Rosalie (Pagotto) Deischer, with whom he shared 30 years of love and life, until her passing, December 26, 2017.  His surviving sons are James Liero III (married to Lisa Liero), and Mathew Liero (married to Lena Liero), his surviving grandchildren are Nicholas and Dominic Liero.  Also surviving is his brother Glenn A. Deischer (married to Jean Deischer ) and two nieces, Kimberly Ike (Thomas) and Kristin Deischer along with cousins throughout the USA, and two of his closest family friends, Curtis Lienemann and Jonathan Noll, whom he regarded as sons.

Scott grew up in Emmaus with a family active at Saint John UCC. He sang in the youth choir as a young man, and again at the age 70 in the senior choir.  He was drum major for both the Emmaus Junior High and High School Green Hornet Marching Bands. Scott, in the late 1960’s, directed 100 of his peers for Sing-Out Lehigh Valley, a group whose singing emphasized a political message of fighting for freedom and liberty in the US. Scott credits his junior high band director, Ron Mosemann, and bassoon teachers Milt Focht of Allentown and Richard Kemper of Mansfield State for his life of music.

Scott attended the newly opened Lehigh County Community college in downtown Allentown during the fall of 1967. He transferred to Mansfield state the following year.

Scott taught at Pen Argyl area school district for 35 years, 20 years as the High School Band Director and 15 years at Wind Gap Middle School directing the 120 member Green Knight Marching Band.  While at Pen Argyl Area School District, Scott formed a 110 member Junior High marching band in a school with only 950 students grades 7-12. The highlight of his professional career was when both bands marched in the Emmaus Halloween parade in the early 1980s.

As band director during Scott’s second year as a teacher, he was honored to host the 1972 three day PMEA Eastern All State Orchestra Festival at the newly built Wind Gap Elementary School auditorium.  Students from the Philadelphia suburbs up through and including High Schools in Northern Pennsylvania participated in the festival. Scott shares this accomplishment with the PAASD administration and staff, Wilson Kresge, then superintendent, and the community who housed and fed the students.

At Wind Gap Middle School, in the 1990s, as a general music teacher for grades 4-8, with the efforts of his wife, Rosalie, Vice President of TAMA Manufacturing and through the donations of the local apparel community, Scott procured something which only one other school district in PA had: Yamaha’s electronic music keyboard system. This allowed students to engage in musical education hands on with a state of the art keyboard for each student and a central computer through which Scott trained and evaluated students. Deischer Dunkin Donut Days was a joy for Scott when his class challenged their musical acumen for a delicious treat.

Scott and Rosalie loved vacationing in the US Virgin Islands for 20 years with family and friends. Both loved gardening, landscaping and tending to their home in Plainfield township which included passive solar heating, a greenhouse with a trombe wall,an earth berm on the north side of the house, a solar water heater, solar panels, and hybrid vehicles. Scott and Rosalie enjoyed neighborhood parties in Gap View Acres and hosted July 4th parties (featuring a pig roast, hot air balloon and horse and pony rides) for family and friends (both in and around the neighborhood).

One of Scott’s many passions was embracing LED lights which allowed him to brighten the neighborhood every Christmas. On the 13th season of Christmas with Bill White, Scott and Rosalie’s home was featured.

Scott felt, above all, that he was blessed by all the goodness in life finding him, without him ever having to search.

Funeral services will be held, Friday, November 8, 2024, at 11 AM at the Ruggiero Funeral Home, LLC, 126 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, Pen Argyl. There will be a viewing beginning at 9 AM until time of services at the funeral home.  Interment will be at St. Elizabeth’s Cemetery, Pen Argyl.

Not sure what to say?

Happy Heavenly Birthday wishes Scott. Thinking of you often and praying to are reunited with Rosalie. You are missed my friend

Correction, The Veteran´s Stadium appearance by PAHS Band was for the Bicentennial.

To the Deischer family, I was extremely saddened to see Mr. Deischer´s obituary come up on my phone today. I don´t live in the area anymore, however, I do check in often to see what´s happening in Penn Argyl. I still can´t believe it. Mr. Deischer was the fresh start our high school band desperately needed. We only had 43 total in the band and our uniforms were falling apart. He organized fund raisers to make money to buy new ones, hoagie sales were a big one. We assembled them in the...

To this day, every time I hear the song "Buddy Holly", I still think of you. Rest peacefully, Mr. Deischer...

Rest in peace, Mr. D. I will forever remember your patented "V Dance".

Deischer Family, Sorry to hear of your loss.

Glenn and Jean, So sorry to hear of your loss. May the peace of Christ be with you at this difficult time.

My thoughts and prayers to the Deischer family.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I was a friend of Scott's way back in our Sing Out Days. He was kind to everyone.
