Heaven has gained another angel. After a long battle with cancer, Scott Peter Del Pozzo, 49, passed away peacefully at his home in Holyoke, MA January 25th, 2019. Born June 23rd, 1969 in Holyoke, MA, he lived a full and loving life of Faith, Family and Service to others. If he wanted to do something, he went for it, he had no fear (except of heights). From 1989 – 1993, Scott served the citizens of Western MA as an EMT with both Charter and Commonwealth Ambulance services. In 1992, Scott graduated from the Springfield College Paramedic program and set out on his next adventure as a Wake County EMS Paramedic in Raleigh, NC. During his time there, he participated in a local Catholic Church’s young adult group. With that group and the overall church community, Scott felt a pull towards religious life. In 1998, he joined the Holy Name Province, as a Franciscan Friar, where he served communities in the US as well as South America. In late summer of 2000, Scott returned home to attain a BS in Biology from UMASS Amherst. Scott’s desire to serve the public led him to his studies for a Master of Science in Emergency Management from Jacksonville State University, Jacksonville, AL. He worked in Easthampton, MA as the Assistant Director of Emergency Management from 2008 – 2011. Since September of 2005, Scott served the Town of Amherst, MA as Emergency Dispatcher.
Scott met his wife Nicole in January of 2002. From that moment, they were inseparable, enjoying concerts, family dinners, gardening and spending time with friends. Scott and Nicole were married in March of 2005 and in 2012 adopted their two children from Ethiopia, Abdeta and Atsede.
He is predeceased by his mother Anne Del Pozzo and father John Del Pozzo. He is survived by his wife Nicole Del Pozzo and their two children Abdeta, age 11, and Atsede, age 8, of Holyoke, MA; sisters Holly Belisle and her husband Nate of Easthampton, MA, Heather Del Pozzo of Easthampton, MA, and Bernadette Pearson and her husband Scott of Palmer, MA; his six nieces and nephew; and best friend for the past 40 years, Andy Doty of Springfield, MA.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, February 1st from 4PM – 7 PM at the Corridan Funeral Home, 333 Springfield St., Chicopee. The family and friends will gather for Scott's Funeral Mass on Saturday, February 2nd, 10 AM at the Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton St., Holyoke followed by burial in the St. Patrick's Cemetery, Chicopee.
Memorial contributions to the Del Pozzo Children’s Education Fund can be sent c/o Nicole Del Pozzo 13 Gilman Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
